Customizing your wingman
Your wingman ships with a sensible default for your trade — but it’s fully customizable. Most owners spend 20 minutes tuning it during their first week.
What you can configure
Greeting
Default opening: “Hi, this is [Name], an AI assistant for [Your Business]. How can I help?”
The AI-disclosure phrase is required by law in California, Florida, and several other states. You can change the assistant’s name (we recommend a person’s first name, not a brand) and the business name, but the AI-disclosure phrase stays. We’ll never let you turn it off — that’s our liability and yours.
Qualifying questions
Each industry has a default qualifying script (e.g., for plumbing: “What’s the issue?”, “Is anyone in immediate danger?”, “What’s the address?”). You can edit, reorder, or add questions. Common additions:
- Service area boundaries (“I’m sorry, we don’t service ZIP code X — would you like a referral?”)
- Insurance pre-screen (“Do you have homeowner’s insurance covering this?”)
- Job-size minimums (“Our minimum job is $500 — is this a smaller fix?”)
Transfer rules
Configure when the wingman transfers to a live human:
- Caller asks for a person — transfer or take a message?
- Caller has an emergency — transfer immediately, ring through to your phone, log if no answer.
- Caller is high-value (insurance claim, large project) — transfer + send you a text alert.
Booking rules
Connect your calendar (Google, Outlook, or our built-in scheduler) so the wingman books real appointments. Configure:
- Available windows per day of week
- Job type → duration mapping (service call = 1hr, install estimate = 2hr)
- Travel-time buffers between appointments
- Blackout days/times
After-hours behavior
By default, your wingman is on 24/7 — emergencies route differently from non-urgent inquiries.
- Business hours: standard qualifying flow + book to calendar.
- After hours: emergency triage — flag urgent calls (water leaks, lockouts, broken HVAC in extreme weather), text/call your on-call rotation, and confirm dispatch with the customer.
- Weekends/holidays: your call. Some owners run business-hours-only with after-hours voicemail; others keep emergency routing live.
Recording and disclosure
Your wingman records calls by default for quality and your own review. In two-party-consent states (CA, CT, DE, FL, IL, MD, MA, MI, MT, NH, PA, WA), the wingman discloses recording at the start of every call. You can:
- Disable recording entirely (we still capture the transcript)
- Configure retention (default: 90 days)
- Pull any recording from your dashboard
Making changes
All customization is via your dashboard at app.growthwingman.com — Sub-Account → Settings → AI Configuration. Changes take effect immediately on the next call.
Want help tuning?
The first few hundred calls are the most informative. Listen back to a sample, find one place where the wingman fumbled, and adjust the script. If you want a second pair of ears on it, book a 20-minute optimization call and we’ll review your transcripts together.
